You can find the general information and how active the city voluntters called “City Cast Chiba” played their role at Tokyo 2020 Games in Chiba on this website.
Active volunteers are needed for the success of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
There are mainly two types of volunteers, Games Volunteers who support the event and the competition operations and City Volunteers who serve the visitors as providing tourism, transport and Games-related information throughout the games’ period.
In 2018, we recruited 3,000 City Volunteers who will support the Tokyo 2020 Games held in Chiba prefecture, one of the host venues of 8 events. We expect participants to be passionate about the success of the games and wish to work together in welcoming visitors with the utmost hospitality.
・From Sep 2018 to Dec 2018: Application
・From April 2019 to July: Interviews and orientaiton
・From Oct 2019 to March 2020: Standardized training
-Tokyo 2020 Games postponed to 2021-
・From July 2020 to December: Online Meetup
・From April 2021: Area trainings (The schedules are subject to change.)
・From July 2021 to September: Volunteer service (includin online activities.)
The virtual tours by City Cast Chiba are designed to help people, who had planned to enjoy local tours or excursions in areas around the Olympics and Paralympics venues, to enjoy alternative experiences.
Programs in English, Chinese and Spanish will be posted on the linked page, "Online Virtual Tours by City Cast Chiba", from mid-July.
Those wishing to take part in the programs are required to apply through the website after choosing their preferred programs.
*Participants will be chosen on a first-come-first-served basis.
Scheduled tours have all ended. We would like to express our gratitude for participantation of many international guests.
The newsletters written by City Cast Chiba will be published 5 times throughout the games period, reporting their volunteer activities from mid-July to September.
The summery of the newsletters are also released in English and some other languages.

※From September 26 to December 10, 2018, we opened for application of 3,000 City Volunteers and there were about 6,500 applicants.
Chiba prefecture, Chiba city, Ichinomiya town, Narita city, Urayasu city
-Provide tourism information (sightseeing spots, restaurants, shopping places, etc.)
-Provide transport information (ways to access a destination, transfer points, etc.)
-Provide Games-related information
at major train stations in Chiba, stations nearest to Games venues or locations on the route to Games venues or the terminals at Narita International Airport
Volunteers are expected to work for 5 areas in Chiba prefecture; Chiba City Venue Area, Ichinomiya Town, Narita International Airport, Narita City Area, Urayasu City Area
3 Olympic events and 4 Paralympic events will be held in this area. Volunteers are expected to work throughout the games’ period in 2020.
Surfing will be held in this area from July 26 to 29, 2020. Volunteers are expected to work during the period of the competition and related events held in the surrounding area around the end of July, 2020.
Many spectators and tourists will arrive through Narita International Airport as the gateway to Japan. Volunteers are expected to work throughout the games’ period in 2020.
As the nearest and most convenient area to Narita International Airport, this area will be also visited by many tourists and volunteers are expected to work throughout the games’ period.
With a number of hotels nearby, many spectators and tourists will stay in this area, thus the volunteers are expected to support them by providing transport information to travel around the Chiba and Tokyo area throughout the games’ period.
