1) State of Emergency Extended

As the highly contagious Delta variant continues to spread, there has been a rapid increase in coronavirus cases. Hospitals are now unable to admit new patients unless other patients have been discharged. Please refrain from going to crowded places.

The state of emergency has been issued until September 12 in twenty-one prefectures, including Chiba Prefecture. We are asking the residents of Chiba Prefecture for their continued cooperation in the following points:

• Please refrain from nonessential outings. In particular, please do not go out after 8p.m. unless it is absolutely necessary.
• Follow essential countermeasures such as wearing a mask when speaking, socially distancing yourself from others, and washing and disinfecting your hands.
• Refrain from having conversations while eating.
• Refrain from participating in any festivals or parties.

 

2) Chiba Housing Advisory Service for Foreign Students

The Chiba Housing Advisory Service for Foreign Students helps foreign students find a room by providing them with housing information.

<The role of the housing advisor>

Our volunteer housing advisors advise foreign students on the following matters.

• Information about vacant rooms for rent
• Apartment rental contract. (contract conditions including rent, administrative fees, common area fees, consumption tax, key money, deposit, security deposit, agent charge, renewal fees, guarantor, repayment, contract period, number of residents, penalty for contract breach, etc.)
• Apartment policies.

All selected housing advisors display a sticker on their store window.

II. Festivals and Events 

1) Tokyo 2020 Paralympics to Commence!

The Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games will begin on Tuesday, August 24 and will run until Sunday, September 5! In Chiba Prefecture, four events will take place at Makuhari Messe (Chiba City): goalball, sitting volleyball, taekwondo, and wheelchair fencing. In addition, the Prefecture and municipalities will host teams from various countries for pre-Paralympics training camps in preparation for the Games.

＜Introduction of Games to be Held in Chiba Prefecture>

Goalball / 8/25 (Wed) - 9/3 (Fri) / Makuhari Messe Hall C

Goalball is a sport contested by visually impaired competitors, with teams of three battling it out wearing eye shades. Teams attack on the court by rolling, bouncing and throwing a 1.25 kg ball, with a bell inside, into the opposing team's goal. They compete over two 12-minute halves. The defenders listen to the sound of the bell and the footsteps of their opponents, and defend using their whole bodies.

Sitting Volleyball / 8/27 (Fri) - 9/5 (Sun) / Makuhari Messe Hall A

Sitting Volleyball is a six-person volleyball game where players must keep part of the body, the area between the buttocks and the shoulder, in contact with the court at all times. The ball is the same as a standard volleyball, but the court is narrower than a standard court and has a lower net. A match is 5-sets of first to 25 points (first to 15 points in the 5th set) with no right to serve.

Taekwondo / 9/2 (Thu) - 9/4 (Sat) / Makuhari Messe Hall B

There are two events: gyeorugi (sparring for competitors with physical disabilities) and poomsae (forms for competitors with intellectual disabilities). At the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, gyeorugi will be officially adopted! Just like taekwondo, you will want to watch the spectacular kicks.

Wheelchair Fencing / 8/25 (Wed) - 8/29 (Sun) / Makuhari Messe Hall B

A fencing competition that takes place with wheelchairs fixed to a platform called a piste. The uniforms, swords and masks used are the same as in standard fencing. There are three events: foil, epee, and sabre, divided into two classes depending on the type and extent of disability.

2) Chiba Art Festival 2021

 

The Chiba Art Festival is now being held from Saturday, July 31 until Sunday, September 5. As part of the cultural program that is the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, this art festival is an event that allows visitors to enjoy Chiba’s cultural charm through art, using “Chiba Cultural Assets” as the theme of the exhibition’s venues and artworks. The festival features works by the world-renowned art group teamLab, outdoor artworks by artists associated with Chiba Prefecture, and artworks widely solicited from the general public based on the theme of “Chiba Cultural Assets.”

1.teamLab Exhibition 　

The world-renowned art group teamLab exhibits artwork outdoors, adding a new charm to the venue. The artwork is displayed at night during the festival’s duration.

※Advanced reservations are required for every 30-minute period. Attendance is limited to residents of Chiba Prefecture. Please make a reservation via the application form on the Chiba Art Festival 2021 official website.
※ New applications for advanced reservations are suspended during the period of the emergency declaration.
※ Reservations for 9/1 (Wed) through 9/5 (Sun) are being accepted.

• Duration: 7/31 (Sat) - 9/5 (Sun) (the lights will be turned on from 6:30pm to 9:00pm)
  ※ Closed 8/18 (Wed)
• Location: Chiba Port Park 　
• Artworks: Light artworks are displayed at the “Park in the City.” The artworks continue to interactively change based on the presence of visitors at the exhibition and behavior of nature, such as wind and rain.

2.Outdoor Artwork Exhibit 7/31 (Sat) - 9/5 (Sun)

Outdoor artworks by artists associated with Chiba Prefecture are exhibited.

     ※The museum opens at night on Fridays, Saturdays, and holidays (until 7:30pm)

3.Paintings and Photographs Exhibition: Chiba Cultural Assets

Chiba Port Tower 1^st Floor Citizen’s Gallery, 8/16 (Mon) - 9/5 (Sun) 9:00am - 8:00pm

An exhibition of paintings and photographs widely solicited from the general public under the theme of “Chiba Cultural Assets.” The winning entries are exhibited.

3) Reminder- Online Virtual Tours by City Cast Chiba

The Online virtual tours arranged by city volunteers called “City Cast Chiba”, the official volunteers at the Tokyo 2020 Games, have just started this August.

The tours are designed to help people, who had planned to enjoy local tours or excursions in areas around the Olympics and Paralympics venues, enjoy alternative experiences. Details of the programs are available in English, Chinese, and Spanish. Those who would like to participate are required to apply through the website after choosing their preferred programs.
