1)International Understanding Seminar Event Details and Call for Attendees

The International Understanding Seminar will be held on Friday, November 11th at Chiba Prefecture Cultural Hall to deepen Chiba Prefecture citizens’ understanding about creating a society of multicultural coexistence. The seminar will consist of two parts: a panel discussion by five people with overseas roots, and a lecture by Taro Tamura, an advocate for multiculturalism and diversity since the aftermath of the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake.

1. Panel Discussion(90 minutes)

Five residents of Chiba Prefecture with overseas roots and lecturer Taro Tamura will discuss their lives and experiences in Japan and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Panelists:

  • Michelle Corrigan(United States of America; Coordinator for International Relations, Chiba Prefectural Government)
  • Kim Sookhwa(South Korea; Korean language instructor, Nagareyama International Friendship Association)
  • Amira(Tunisia, global recruitment and business expansion support company employee)
  • TS Burney(Pakistan, actor and TV personality)
  • Uemura Carlos(Peru, travel agency employee)

Facilitator:

  • Mr. Taro Tamura, Representative Director of the Institute for Human Diversity Japan
2. Lecture(40 minutes)

Taro Tamura will give comments on the panel discussion and talk about creating an inclusive community and society where diverse values are recognized and everyone can flourish.
