1)Ise-ebi (Spiny Lobster) Festivals @ Isumi City and Onjuku Town

1.2023 Isumi Ise-ebi Festival @ Isumi City

The waters off the coast of Isumi City is a great fishing ground, due to the meeting of the cold Kurile Current (Oyashio) and the warm Japan Current (Kuroshio). Isumi City takes pride in being one of Japan’s few ise-ebi (spiny lobster) producers that produces them in great quantity.

Spiny lobsters raised in the rough currents along the coast of Isumi City are firm and flavorful, a must try delicacy.

• Bingo card sales time: 8:00 a.m. - 9:50 a.m. (limited to 300 pieces)

2.Onjuku Ise-ebi Festival @ Onjuku Town

Dig into dishes unique to participating establishments during the Onjuku Ise-ebi Festival! During this period, freshly caught spiny lobsters will also be on sale at the open space in front of Tsuki no Sabaku Memorial Museum on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. On event days, you can enjoy free spiny lobster soup, pick your own spiny lobster, buy an “Ise-ebi set”, and more!

• Onjuku Ise-ebi Festival period: September 1 to October 31
• Sales of lobsters: Saturday, Sunday and public holidays from September 16 to October 29 except September 30 and October 1
  Time: 9:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
• Event days: September 10 and October 8
  - Ise-ebi set (2 spiny lobsters and 2 horned turban shells) ¥4,000
  - Pick-your-own spiny lobster (max. 2 spiny lobsters a person) (while stocks last) ¥3,000

2)Kazusa Junisha Festival @ Ichinomiya Town

Said to have begun in 807 and boasting a history of over 1200 years, the Kazusa Junisha Festival is the oldest Shinto ritual that involves bringing the mikoshi (portable shrines) to the sea. This festival is the most prominent ocean festival in the Boso Peninsula and has been designated as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Chiba Prefecture.

This mikoshi festival reunites the family of gods related to Tamayori Hime no Mikoto of Tamasaki Shrine at Tsurigasaki Beach, the southern end of the Kujukuri coastline.

It is truly a sight to witness mikoshi bearers hoist nine mikoshis from five neighboring municipals to gather in Ichinomiya and then charge down the Kujukuri coastline all at once.

Ryota Kuwakubo 《LOST#16》Photo.Yoshisato Komaki

Ryota Kuwakubo (1971-) is a leading artist in the media art world who creates artworks using various mediums including electronic devices.

To commemorate the 150^th anniversary of the formation of Chiba Prefecture, Kuwakubo presents new installations created using light and shadow with the theme of the sea surrounding the Boso Peninsula. The installations were created following research (and interaction with Chiba Prefecture mascot CHI-BA+KUN) on the geography, nature, industry, and culture of Chiba Prefecture.

  Open until 7:30 p.m. (last entry at 7.00 p.m.) on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays.
