I. News

1) Be Aware of Heat Illness 

“Heat illness” refers to a state where the balance of water and salt in a person’s body is gradually broken, thermoregulation fails to function properly, and heat is accumulated in the body due to being in a high-temperature and high-humidity environment for a long time. It can occur not only when you are outdoors, but also when staying indoors not doing any exercise or work. Heat illness victims may be taken to the hospital by ambulance and in some cases, die from it.

In order to prevent health problems caused by heat illness, each individual should have a correct understanding of what heat illness is, be aware of changes in their physical condition, and look out for those around them.

◆ Heat Illness Symptoms

Dizziness, giddiness, numbness in limbs, muscle cramps, feeling unwell, headache, nausea, vomiting, dullness, despondency, feeling different than usual

◆ Preventing Heat Illness

When indoors or outdoors, regularly intake water and salt or drink an oral rehydration solution* even when you do not feel thirsty.

* Water with salt and glucose dissolved into it

◆ WBGT value

WBGT value is an index calculated based on the temperature, humidity, and radiant heat.

Reference values are provided according to the level of exercise or work.

Observed values and predicted values are indicated on the Ministry of the Environment’s website (Heat Illness Prevention Information website).

Heat Illness Alert: In the case the WBGT index is predicted to reach 33 or higher, a “Heat Illness Alert” will be issued by the Ministry of the Environment and Japan Meteorological Agency.

1) Summer Vacation Festa at Chiba Port Tower

There are many events going on at Chiba Port Tower this summer!

Take a cruise along Chiba Port with a tower and tour boat pass! With the opening of the tower rooftop which isn’t normally open to the public, this is special chance to see the Dynamic Damper and get a spectacular view from the rooftop! There will also be a children’s fair, picture-story shows, and lots of fun for the kids! In addition, there is a Tower Party! Visitors can enjoy a special cocktails and cool music at a restaurant with a view 109 meters above ground!

Shared passes available for Chiba Port Tower and the sightseeing boat at a discount!

  • Dates effective: Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays during the Summer Vacation Festa event
  • Boat departure times: 11:30; 13:30; 14:30
  • Number of people: 80 (first come first served)
  • Fee: Adults 1,200 yen; Elementary & junior high school students 600 yen
    ※A boat tour will only be available at 13:30 on July 30 (Sat)

Tower Party (Chiba Port Tower Tonight at 5pm)

Enjoy special cocktails and cool music at Seagull Kitchen, the tower’s restaurant with a view.
Visitors will experience a special night with live DJ performances while viewing the view from 109 meters above ground, recognized as a Japan Night View Heritage site.

III. Exhibitions, Concerts, etc.

1) Planetarium Screening Event “KISEKI x KISEKI: Thoughts on a Moment in the Universe”
12K MEGASTAR-FUSION (Chiba Museum of Science and Industry)

The annual summer planetarium screening is returning to the Chiba Museum of Science and Industry after a three year absence! The ultra-high resolution projection system, “MEGASTAR-FUSION,” was developed by world-renowned planetarium creator Takayuki Ohira. Using a megastar and 17 projectors, the stars can be freely manipulated to create a starry sky that is as close to nature as possible in the 23 meter diameter science dome. In addition, Takayuki Ohira will come to the museum for live commentary sessions on August 13 and 14!

●Screening Commentary Session with Takayuki Ohira

A live commentary session with Megastar creator Takayuki Ohira will take place!

Date: August 13 (Sat) & August 14 (Sun) Twice a day 11:30; 13:30

●Science Dome Gallery Mini Exhibit: Path to MEGASTAR

Projections and other exhibits made by Takayuki Ohira as a student will be on display, showing the development of the world’s most advanced planetarium projection system, “MEGASTAR-FUSION.”
