 I. News

1) FRESC Multilingual Vaccination Support

In order to increase vaccination opportunities for foreign residents, the Foreign Residence Support Center (FRESC) is offering support in multiple languages. Multilingual support is available from consultation and reservation until the day of vaccination. Vaccination sites are located in Tokyo, Osaka, and Nagoya. People who reside outside of these three areas are still eligible to get vaccinated.

Languages available: English, Chinese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, Thai, Vietnamese, Tagalog, Khmer, Nepalese, Indonesian, Burmese, Mongolian, French, Sinhala, Urdu, and Bengali  

1 Cost:

Free(please cover your own transportation fees) 

2 Those eligible:

Vaccination voucher holders

  • Mid to long-term residents
  • Temporary visitors who have difficult returning to their home country (staying in Japan for more than 3 months)
  • Persons undergoing deportation procedures (under home investigation; on parole)

※If you have not received a vaccination voucher, please get one from the municipality where you live.

5 What to bring on the day of vaccination (all locations)

2) State of Emergency Lifted

The state of emergency which has been in effect in nineteen prefectures, including Chiba Prefecture, was lifted on September 30.

To Residents of the Prefecture

  • Please continue taking proper safety measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 by wearing a mask, washing your hands, and keeping a safe distance between yourself and others.
  • If you need to go out, please avoid crowded places and peak times, and keep your group as small as possible.
  • please refrain from unnecessary outings at night, especially after 9 p.m.
  • Please take thorough countermeasures against infection when traveling across prefectural borders.
  • Please refrain from eating in large groups.

3) Restaurants’ Infection Prevention Measures

(1)Restaurants Under the Chiba Prefecture Restaurant Infection Prevention Certification Project

In order to achieve a balance between infection prevention measures and economic activities, the Chiba prefectural government is implementing a project to certify infection prevention measures in restaurants.

Certified restaurants are subject to strict certification standards and have a high level of countermeasures in place. These restaurants will be widely publicized on the Chiba Prefecture homepage.

In addition, the Prefecture will not request certified restaurants to shorten their business hours or restrict the serving of alcoholic beverages, except in the case of restaurants located in areas under a state of emergency or quasi-emergency measures.

(2)Confirmation of Basic Infection Prevention Measures at Chiba Prefecture Restaurants

In addition to (1) above, if the Prefecture confirms that basic infection measures, such as the installation of acrylic panels, are being followed, restaurants can be open until 9:00 p.m. and alcoholic beverages can be served until 8:00 p. m.

 

※However, in both (1) and (2), the maximum number of people in the same group and at the same table is limited to four people regardless of whether or not alcoholic beverages are served.

4) About the SDF Large-scale Vaccination Center Tokyo

The opening of the SDF large-scale Vaccination Center Tokyo for the COVID-19 vaccine has been extended until November 30. Reservations for the vaccination center can be made via the center website, LINE, or by phone.

※Reservations can be made until 11:59 p.m. the day before the inoculation.
※The reservation slot will reopen if there is a cancellation.

※If you wish to make a reservation at the SDF large-scale vaccination center, please be sure to cancel your vaccination appointment in your municipality.  Double booking is a waste of prepared vaccines.

II.Exhibitions and Concerts

1) Special Exhibition at the Natural History Museum and Institute, Chiba:~All about Roses~

The Natural History Museum and Institute, Chiba is holding a special exhibition until November 28 to showcase everything about roses, which are loved from all over the world, from various perspectives like botany, horticulture, and art history.

The exhibition will display an unprecedented collection of valuable works, including rare books with drawings of roses, Art Nouveau glass art, ukiyo-e (Japanese woodblock) prints, and Japanese books. In addition, there will be related events such as the Chiba Rose Garden Stamp Rally, for visitors touring rose gardens in the Prefecture. 

<Highlights>

(1)Carl Gottlob Rössig “Die Rosen, nach der Natur gezeichnet und colorirt,” a valuable work of the Natural History Museum and Institute, Chiba

This German book is said to be one of the few remaining in the world. It has a beautiful hand-colored copperplate engraving which documents roses in Europe in the early 19th century.

(2)Ukiyo-e prints of roses and other works that convey horticulture in the Edo period

Roses are often associated as a Western flower, and indeed, their cultivation in Japan did not become popular until the Meiji period. However, there are ukiyo-e prints, paintings, and books that tell us roses were cultivated in Japan even from the Edo period.

(3) Art Nouveau glass art, “Large Cup with Rose” by Daum Frères

It is said that Art Nouveau glass artists were influenced by Japanese ukiyo-e prints, and they excel in botanical designs. Among them, the “Large Cup with Rose” by Daum Frères of France is a very special work that faithfully reproduces wild roses with a lively and intricate design.
