"Little Edo" Sawara's largest event, the "Sawara Grand Festival", is recognized as a National Important Intangible Folk Cultural Asset, and is one of the 3 largest dashi float festivals in the Kanto region, boasting 300 years of tradition.

In 2016, the "Yama, Hoko, Yatai Gyoji", which includes Sawara's Dashi Float Festival, was registered as a Unesco Intangible Cultural Heritage Event.

The famed dashi float is lavishly decorated with Kanto-style engravings, with a 4-meter tall doll designed by famous doll makers from the Edo and Meiji Periods resting on the top of the dashi float.

While the “Sawara-Bayashi”, one of Japan’s three great styles of festival music, is being played throughout the town, the dashi float will proceed through the Sawara cityscape (nicknamed "Little Edo", also a nationally selected historical building preservation district). This will be sure to paint a pristine picture of Edo Japan.
