 1) Disaster Prevention Seminar for Foreigners (Sakura City)

Chiba Prefecture is looking for foreigners living in Chiba Prefecture to attend their disaster prevention seminar on Saturday, February 1 in Sakura City, which will help them in the event of an earthquake or other natural disaster.

 1) Nanabatake Road 2020 (Kamogawa City)

Known as the premier tourist spot in Boso where spring appears early, fields within walking distance of the JR Awa Kamogawa Station to make a “Hanabatake Road” with a plethora of Nanohana (yellow rape blossoms). Why not come, be surrounded by beautiful scenery and experience spring a little early? Flower picking will also be available during the time period of this event (150 yen every 10 flowers).

Further, on every Sunday in February and March during the event, a miniature version of the “Dr. Yellow” special yellow bullet train is planned to ride through the fields. (200 yen to ride).

 2) Winter Cherry Blossoms at Hokoen Garden (Minamiboso City)

Around 60 winter cherry blossom trees will be in bloom at Hokoen Garden, unique for its deep pink color.

Wada-cho District within Minamiboso City is famous throughout Japan as a flower producing area. Shichirobe Mamiya, a pharmacist who lived in Wada in the past, was the first person in Awa to successfully make flowers. Mamiya hoped that flower making would make the lives of this farming and fishing village better. After succeeding in floriculture, Mamiya decided to try to plant trees, and cleared land to make the Hokoen Garden.

A Cherry Blossom Festival will be held on February 2nd, where you will be able to enjoy winter cherry blossoms and plums in full bloom a little early.

 3) Strawberry Picking

Chiba Prefecture is a major producer of strawberries in Japan. There are over 100 locations where you can pick strawberries in the Prefecture.

Fruit Land Toke/Tourist Strawberry Field Erdbeere (Chiba City)

Large and sweet strawberry of all varieties are waiting to be picked! This 5,000 m2 area is one of the largest strawberry picking house in the Prefecture. Strawberries are placed on benches so they can be picked comfortably, and wide paths are placed along the strawberry picking area, making it easy for anyone to participate. Customers in wheelchairs are also more than welcome. Strawberries, fresh vegetables, and various souvenirs will also be on sale.

Tonosho Town Tourist Strawberry Union (Tonosho Town)

You will be able to enjoy strawberry picking at Tonosho town’s 6 strawberry fields from early January to mid-May. Numerous strawberry varieties will be available for picking. Strawberry stalls will also be set up along National Highway 356, dubbed the “Strawberry Highway”, with freshly picked strawberries being sold by the boxload.

Sanmu City Naruto Tourist Strawberry Union (Sanmu City)

While you may first only be drawn to the “Ichigo-chan” mascot character, the Naruto Strawberry Union is doing serious work such as providing fresh and safe strawberries to the public. The sweetness and taste is truly something special. Jam, ice cream, and sherbets will also be sold.

  • Time period:Ongoing - Mid-May
  • Admission:Ongoing - March 24 Elementary school and above 1,700 Yen、aged 4-6 1,300 Yen、aged 3 or younger 500 Yen
  • Access: Between 5 and 40 minutes on foot from the JR Sobu Line Naruto Station depending on which farm you decide to visit.

 III.  Exhibitions & Concerts

 1) Chiba Museum Fest 2020

- Olympic/Paralympics and the History of Sports in Chiba -

The Chiba Prefectural Board of Education is holding a special exhibition called "Chiba Museum Fest 2020: Olympic/Paralympics and the History of Sports in Chiba" in Prefectural museums, libraries, and other municipal facilities in the Prefecture.

With the theme of Olympics/Paralympics and Chiba’s sports history, this exhibition aims to showcase athletes from Chiba Prefecture, as well as modern sports in relation to Chiba and the Olympic/Paralympic Games. The exhibition will also introduce the technological prowess of Chiba companies which support sports as well as Tokyo 2020 Olympic/Paralympic events that will be held in Chiba Prefecture.
