In this era of progressing internalization, movement of people is taking place on a global scale in a variety of realms including economic activities, academics, politics, and culture. In answer to the need for international education facilities, Makuhari International School opened in Makuhari New City, which is developing into the prefecture's international city in April 2009. At this school for children who already possess advanced English skills such as returnee Japanese children and foreign children, children from various countries will learn together and internationalism will be nourished through daily school life.

1. School Overview
- Location: Makuhari New City in Chiba City
- School scope: Kindergarten (3 years) and Elementary School (6 years) - approximately 400 total students
- Opening date: April 2009
- Institution form: A private school managed by a new educational corporation and established through the cooperation of the government, the economic world, and school managers
2. Special Features
- School aimed at Japanese (returnee children) and foreign children, with the planned percentage of each being roughly half.
- Subjects other than Japanese will be taught by English. Thorough Japanese education will also take place.
- School features a flexible curriculum and foreign teachers.
- With small classes (approximately 20-24 students), each child receives instruction fitted to their educational background.
- Importance is placed on reading, writing, and calculation, the fundamental base of common worldwide learning.
- Considering the fact that children of various nationalities are learning together, complete adaptive instruction, daily living support, and academic support counseling are available.
- As a school based on Article 1 of the School Education Law, the school is eligible for assistance based on the Private School Law and the Private School Promotion Assistance Law.
3. Results
- Developing an environment for resident foreigners and the education of returnee Japanese children will increase the appeal of Makuhari New City and Chiba Prefecture, and the areas will become more well known.
- Increasing the number of foreign capital companies and gathering internationally-minded, talented people will contribute to the invigoration of Chiba Prefecture.
- This school in Makuhari New City becomes an enticement for foreign capital companies to move into non-subdivided lots including expanded areas, and contributes to vitalizing land use near the school.
