The first ever Asian Entrepreneurship Awards (AEA) will be held from Wednesday, May 9 – Friday, May 11 at Kashiwanoha Campus, located in Kashiwa City. Eighteen startup companies from twelve countries and regions across Asia looking to change the world through innovation will gather in Kashiwa for this three-day business conference and competition. The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) has established a call center exclusively for inquiries regarding the new residency registration system for foreigners. This service is available everyday (excluding weekends, holidays, and December 29-January 3) until March 29, 2013 from 8:30-17:30. Consultations are available in Japanese, English, Chinese, Korean, Spanish, and Portuguese. To reach the call center, please call 0570-066-630 (for IP and PHS phones 03-6301-1337).
The call center accepts consultations regarding the changes in the Basic Resident Registration Act, which will be implemented on July 9, 2012. (Please note that the call center may redirect inquiries regarding individual resident cards to the inquirer’s municipality of residence. Please utilize this service if you have any questions regarding the new residency registration system.

On Sunday, October 21, 2012, runners can take part in a rare opportunity to run on the Tokyo Bay Aqua-Line, which connects the shores of Chiba and Kanagawa prefectures. The CHIBA AQUALINE MARATHON is the first full marathon in Japan to be held along highway running over the ocean.
The maximum number of runners will be 15,000 people. This includes 150 reserved slots for participants who are non-Japanese nationals and applying through individual entry. Applications are only being accepted from April 12 to May 10, so don’t miss out! Also during this period, there will be English-speaking staff to assist anyone with limited Japanese abilities who may need help filling out the online entry form, which is only available in Japanese. Kururi is a town known for its spring water. You can enjoy Kururi’s fresh spring water at a number of locations throughout the town. Kururi, which once flourished as a castle town, is home to many historical landmarks, including Kururi Castle. If you get thirsty during the hike, feel free to quench your thirst with water from the flowing wells around town. There will also be a market with sales of local products.

Come out for the “Jibiki-ami (net fishing) & Seafood Barbecue” event at Iwai Beach. You can enjoy freshly netted seafood for breakfast. (Please bring your own drinks and onigiri.)

Guests staying with a member minshuku of the Iwai Minshuku Cooperative on the night before jibiki-ami will receive a Black abalone for free.

As a part of the Yachiyo Furusato Oyako Festival celebrations, keiki unagi (“prosperity eel”), which pray for economic recovery as well as approximately 100 koinobori (“flying carp streamers”) will be flown over the Yurayura Bridge.

Sawara is a town that has retained its atmosphere as a mercantile city during the Edo Period. Visit Sawara’s unique and traditional merchant houses that are a part of the “Sawara Neighborhood Museum” project, and see the treasures displayed within each house, which have been passed down within the families that living in these buildings. The “Sawara Neighborhood Museum” project is managed by the Sawara Landlady Association.
As a part of this project, the “Sawara Samurai Doll Display” event will be held from April to May. Currently, approximately 50 buildings are participating in the Sawara Neighborhood Museum project. Over half of these project members will be displaying samurai dolls(gogatsu ningyo) and other Boys’ Festival decorations that have been passed down as family heirlooms from generation to generation. Nearby local facilities such as the Sawara Machinami Koryukan will also have samurai dolls on display, so you can take a leisurely stroll as you enjoy these beautifully unique dolls at about 35 locations around town. Participating locations are marked with bright green cloth signs hanging out front.
