科学研究を県民へ：絆をさらに大きく

千葉県がんセンター研究所では、研究活動以外にも、さまざまな社会活動を行っています。千葉県教育庁との連携で、「千葉県夢チャレンジ体験スクール」、日本学術振興会の補助による「ひらめき☆ときめきサイエンススクール」を中・高校生を対象に夏休みに開催し、DNAの抽出と簡単な遺伝子解析実験、がん組織や血球細胞の顕微鏡観察実習等を行っています。このようながん教育の振興も、私たちの重要な使命の一つです。一方、当センターでは、患者さんとともにさまざまな活動を行う「ふれあい広場」が組織され、研究所も催し物の開催などに参加しています。研究所では、当センターの他の部局や県内の機関と協力して、県民のがん予防やがん検診率向上のためのがん予防展、またがん患者を支援し、がんの克服をめざす「スマイルキャンサーウォークちば」などに参加しています。このように社会活動を通して県民のがん予防、がん患者を支援するための試みにも積極的に取り組んでいます。

Community Outreach

CCCRI routinely sponsors a series of external communication and outreach programs such as public education events in the form of “Summer School” for secondary and high school students, public exhibition events for cancer prevention and meetings with cancer patients, survivors and their family. Since 1998, our annual Summer School, “satellite school for future scientists,” event invited middle and high school students to come to our campus and experience hands-on experiments of DNA extraction, exploratory analytical examination of their own DNA and blood cells by microscopy. Our hospital since 1990 has been hosting an outreach event we call “FUREAI HIROBA (Companion Square)” in which our staff and student volunteers participate in a variety of fun activities with cancer patients and their family. We also participate in a number of public exhibition events and publication of educational informational booklets in collaboration with cancer survivors and our colleagues at the Center. To raise public awareness for early cancer diagnosis and treatment, we also participate in public events hosted by other institutes and organizations for cancer prevention activities and communications with cancer patients and survivors.
